This Week’s Online High School Success Story -Tom

Tom and his family have lived on the same farm that has been passed down from generation to generation. The family farm is very important to Tom and his folks. Due to the economy and the price of milk fluctuating, Tom’s family started to have money troubles.

Tom was 16 years old and going to high school. Tom was in his Sophomore year at high school. His family was struggling so bad that they were getting closer and closer to losing the beloved family farm. Tom knew this could not happen and started to apply for a job after school.

Tom started working at a factory on second shift. He worked part-time and after three weeks his boss asked him if he would like to work full-time. Tom gladly accepted the full-time position to help his parents pay the bills. Slowly but surely Tom was getting further and further behind in his homework. He was starting to fall asleep during class. Eight hours at a job, high school and helping around the farm was all catching up to this 16-year-old. Tom knew something had to give. Within almost four weeks Tom quit high school.

The good news is before Tom quit high school his uncle found an online high school he could join and earn his high school diploma. Tom’s uncle told him he could work at his own pace and whenever he had a little free time. Tom happily became a student at Excel High School. Tom puts in less hours at school and is learning just as much as he was at his high school in town. Tom hopes to graduate early. He also reports that his family’s farm is doing well and that with his full-time job, the family is less stressed and able to make all of their payments on time.
